Editorial Review: Despite some minor flaws, Ready 2 Rumble Boxing is a solid performer, delivering good arcade-style boxing action. All of the game's 18 boxers have distinct characteristics in keeping with their comically caricatured looks, including trademark special moves. In addition to arcade mode--where you fight in successive tournament-style bouts--the game features a championship mode in which you choose a boxer and train him to achieve Rocky-like status. To win the title fights along this road to victory, you must train your boxer in various mini-games to improve his abilities, as well as win prize and exhibition fights to raise money to pay for said training. A controller pack is required to save boxer data, and you're probably going to want to use the optional thunder pack to experience the full Rumble.
While the supported expansion pack gives Ready 2 Rumble Boxing crisp, high-resolution graphics, the game's speed could have used a boost as well, being distractingly inconsistent at times. And while the game certainly sounds good, the digitized dialogue can be annoyingly repetitive, none more so than sports announcer Michael Buffer's patented "Let's Get Ready to Rumble!" chant. --Joe Hon
Pros:
Good arcade-style boxing
Excellent 2-player head-to-head action
Challenging mini-games in championship mode
Ability to use customized boxers in exhibition fights
Cons:
Game speed is inconsistent at times
Repetitive digitized voices

From the previews on Tv for "Ready 2 Rumble Boxing," it looked like it would be a lot of fun. And for the most part it is. You choose from several boxers to either fight against a computer player or a friend. In 1 player, you can play a Championship mode and work your way up from #10 all the way to being the real champ. But it's not easy. There's not any special moves in "Ready 2 Rumble Boxing," which was the only bad thing about the game. However, you can use a lot of the recognizable punches from a jab to the uppercut by pressing different combinations of buttons on the controller. You can also block and dodge to keep from being hit. After you land so many good hits against your opponent, the word RUMBLE will be spelled at the bottom of the screen. When you see RUMBLE at the bottom, press A and B at the same time and your gloves will light up, making your fighter truly ready to rumble by making them stronger and faster. Once you get knocked down, you have to press the buttons as fast as you can to get back up and keep from being eliminated. After you get knocked down so many times, you lose. There are also other modes of play such as Exhibition fights.
"Ready 2 Rumble Boxing" has pretty good graphics and somewhat realistic character movements. Its control is easy enough to master in a short time, and the sound is probably the best aspect of the game. The man who is famous for the line: "Let's get ready to rumble" is the announcer and you can tell it's really him by the speech. To make the game even better, there's a few hidden boxers such as Kemo Claw and a huge creature that you can find by putting in the right code. There's also a random select if you're not sure what fighter you want.
"Ready 2 Rumble Boxing" is definitely the best boxing game I've ever played, after you get used to the controls and memorize how to do certain punches, it's a lot of fun. If you like boxing games, I recommend getting it as soon as you can.

Rating: - One of the best boxing games made...
Ready 2 Rumble is a fun game plain and simple. I haven't had this much fun with a boxing game since Mike Tyson's Punch-Out...and R2R expands on every aspect of that NES classic. The only real problem is the longevity of the game. I got tired of the one player game pretty quick, there really is not much to it once you figure out combos and master the Rumble flurries. If you have only a Nintendo, then its a really great buy. But if you have a Dreamcast, buy that superior version. The DC version represnts what R2R really is, fantastic graphics and sound, while the N64 verion is really a step down. The developers did a good job of stripping R2R down to N64's abilitys. It's a good version, but not the quality of the Dreamcast version.
